Introducing Excel Dance School
Beginning in fall 2019, Excel will host an after-school Dance School for boys and girls in 2nd-5th grade. Directed by EA Dance Director Cara Lavallee, Excel Dance School will focus on a different dance style each night:
Tuesdays: Ballet & Lyrical
Ballet is a foundational art form that provides integral technique and body awareness. Lyrical uses ballet technique and more free-form movements as well as emotional gestures to interpret popular music ballads. Students will develop gracefulness, strength, discipline, and self-expression.
Wednesdays: Tap & Musical Theater
Tap is the perfect way to develop rhythm skills, coordination and musical awareness. Tap skills will help dancers to breakdown difficult choreography in other subjects as well. Musical Theater focuses on presentational skills through dramatic characters, story-telling and is set to Broadway-style music.
Thursdays: Jazz & Hip-Hop
Jazz classes are high-energy and full of powerful movement like leaps, turns and acrobatics. Hip Hop utilizes funk and street styles of dance. Both subjects are set to today’s more popular, age-appropriate music. Students will progress their overall fitness, flexibility, coordination, and individual style.
Session 1: Fall Sept. 10 - Nov. 14, 2019
Session 2: Spring Feb. 25 - May 7, 2020 (week off for Spring Break)
Classes will be held from 3-4 p.m. in the Dance Studio (located behind the EA Fitness Center). There will be an in-studio performance during the final week of each session.
Excel Dance School is $250 for each 10-week session. Students may also register for more than one night per week.
